In FY 2002, Arizona ranked 12th nationally by receiving 112 SBIR awards totaling $34,006,247. Arizona ranked 13th place nationally by receiving 16 STTR awards totaling $2,979,729 (US SBA SBIR/STTR rankings).

Progressive Policy Institute's 2002 State New Economy Index ranked Arizona 6th nationally in industry R&D investment as a percentage of Gross State Product (GSP).

According to the Cyberstates 2006 Report released by AeA, venture capital increased in Arizona by 81% to $148 million, showing that Arizona remains an attractive location for technology companies to innovate.

Arizona is rated 4th best state for entrepreneurs (Brandow Company, 2003).

According to Cognetics, Arizona is the 2nd leading state for entrepreneurship (Cognetics, 2003).

Overall R&D expenditures from all sources exceeded $10.5 billion, making Arizona 8th nationwide (ASTRA 2003) .

In 2003, the Arizona legislature authorized $440 million to fund the development of research infrastructure at the three major universities.

Thunderbird, The Garvin School of International Management ranked #1 in the world for International Business education for the 9th year in a row (U.S. News & World Report). It has also been ranked as the 10th best business school for executive education (British Financial Times).
